Wow so I have been a fan of Sarah Grimm's for awhile. I honestly wasn't sure when I started this book just because cop romances are usually not my thing. But because it was Sarah and an awesome price I went for it.Boy am I glad I did! This story is about a detective Justin and a photographer Paige. They'r chemistry is like none I've ever read! It literally jumped off the pages and I could feel it in my bones. I felt like these people existed somewhere and Sarah was just telling me about her friends story it was an expirence I have rarely found before usually books have an underlying current of fiction too many unbelievable moments on top of characters who are eithier too good to be true or are such jerks that they'r transformations are to good to be true, so when I have the rare blessing of reading a book where I feel like I literally entered it while I was reading I get all kinds of excited.
I have promised myself that when reviewing books I would not do 2 things one give you a synopsis of the story because duh they'r happens to be one on the top of this page and 2 not give u spoilers so I'm not. I am writing this because I want other people to go I to this book not knowing what to expect and have your mind totally blown like I did the suspense and twists and turns in this book will leave you wanting more!!

We are introduced to Detective Justin Harrison, he's on the homicide detective, back from medical leave after six and a half months. He was shot outside a convenience store on his way home to buy a pack of cigarettes, the thief was exiting the store and noticed his badge and gun, thinking he was there to arrest him, he shoots and runs, before Justin has a chance to realize what was happening. The store owner called for an ambulance, and tried to stop the bleeding before the ambulance arrives. He meets his partner Detective Allan Simmons at the hotel, where the crime took place, forensics has already found a badge, and know the name of the deceased man, he was a police officer, by the name of Leroy St. John, from Boston, now this confuses the detectives, why was here? They are in San Diego and this officer has no jurisdiction here.
Forensic's find a picture, that was stuck between the pages of a newspaper that was near the dead man's body, it shows a beautiful woman, who is being hugged from behind by a man, they have no way of knowing if the man in the picture is that of Leroy's or not, because he was shot execution style, behind the head, any facial similarities between the man in the picture and Leroy, isn't easy to do. As they get the phone records from the hotel, they find that person to talk to him was a woman named Paige Conroy, who also happens to be the same woman in the picture. They learn when they speak to her, that her dead fiance was Leroy St. John's partner, by the name of Rick Preston. He was also shot on the last night they were eating in a restaurant, while she waited outside, and he went to get the car. Could this just be a coincidence, or this beautiful woman a murderer?
"Without Risk," is a brilliant suspense novel, that will draw you in from beginning to end. Full of interesting plot twists, just when you think you it all figured out, Sarah Grimm throws a curve ball at you, that will leave you sitting at the edge of your seat! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of suspense, or to anyone that is looking for a great book to read take you away from the dull drums of every day life! Happy reading, and I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
With author, Sarah Grimm, these two elements--steam and suspense--merge into a well-crafted read. Like most men, Justin, a police detective, has trouble dealing with his temporary weakness from a bullet wound. Paige is still trying to recover from her fiance's brutal murder. So when a second murder brings them together, sparks fly and walls shoot up another six feet. Neither wants to be attracted, yet both are. As they fight their chemistry and growing feelings, a diabolical villian seems bent on destroying their lives. Ms. Grimm drew me into the story in her opening scene and held me by the throat until I read "The End." It's easy to understand why this book has won some prestigious awards and nominations. Well done. Very well done.
Not Without Risk is a great romantic mystery read. The characters and plot captures you from the start. Sergeant Justin Harrison and Paige Conroy were very engaging and likable characters. I felt like Paige did, as she and Justin were trying to figure out who was stalking her. I loved the romance and suspense and how the story ended. Great book Sarah!!!! This is the second book of Sarah's that I have read. I also read After Midnight and now waiting for Midnight Heat to arrive.
Not Without Risk was a story that gave me doubts when I first began reading it. I found Ms. Grimm to be very wordy and repetitive in the first few chapters. But as you get involved in the story and begin to understand the characters it keeps you reading wondering what was going to happen next.
As the characters evolve you start hoping that Justin and Paige finally realize that they belong together. A refreshing character that actually made me laugh out loud was Justin's mother. Ms. Grimm hit the nail on the head in developing the mother of an arrogant, cocky male.
Many suspense stories you figure out who the bad guy is half way through and begin thinking how stupid the characters are. Not in Not Without Risk. The suspense of does he/she or doesn't he/she sucked me in so much that I almost forgot that there was a mystery to the story as well. Ms. Grimm was very good at holding your attention. She didn't show her hand too soon. I began to put the pieces of the mystery together the same time Justin and Paige did. I am glad I took the risk and purchased this story.
